"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web. "

artist biography.
Artist. Human. Color-Enthusiast. I am a young artist studying an undergrad degree in Art with a double concentration in Printmaking and Education; I studied in Fort Collins. As a Denver, Colorado native, I grew up with an insatiable passion for adventures above treeline. I find at this point in my artistic career I am more interested in the power of form, pattern, color and abstraction to express. I am inspired by a variety of artists including the color choice of Rothko, the mark making of Picasso, the modernism of Frankenthaler, the delicacy of O'Keefe and the patterns of the Gee's Bend Quilters. I am constantly humbled and inspired by children's artwork.

I AM FOR AN ART
* inspired by Claes Oldenburg's manifesto: I am For an Art (1961)
Frances Ritchie
I am for an art that sings. Dances. Frolics through leaves of grass.
I am for an art that is found on subway walls and abandoned halls.
I am for an art that thinks for itself Nay! exists for itself.
I am for an art that is secret and purposeful.
Like a couple’s stolen glances, the footfalls of a dancer’s prances, the melodic beats of a jazz trances…
I am for the art of collection.
I am for passed postcard art, comic clippings art, bottlecap button art, fortune-cookie cutout art, dusty dumpster art, tattered tickets art, random writings art, typewriter tales art, phonetic photography art, and gentle genuine art.
I am for the art of stolen library cards:
1921: The Rise of Russia. 1954: A Guide to the US Coast Guard.
I am for an art you can sing with, sit with, sleep with. (notes of a simple song & quiet, quilted stiches).
I am for an art of thoughts, voices, words, scraps, hammers, brushed, spray cans, crayons, pencils, numbers, symbols, lines, dots.
I am for the artist that grades papers at a teacher’s desk, sweeps the sidewalks, sells work in the bustling villages of South America… I am for the artists who does not know they are
an artist.
I am for artists. I am for activists. I am for artivists.
I am for the art that is found in the sound of snow, the smell of the sunshine, the evaporation of a raindrop. Drop.
I am for the art that intersects. I am for the art of the ancient that used hammer and chisel and sweat to shape rocks. I am for the art of the modern that used mind and body and sweat to shape minds. I am for the art that intersects.
I am for the art that helps heal, that helps teach--that helps express. I am for the art that pushes boundaries. I am for the art on trains.
I am for the art that makes you lose yourself.
makes you find yourself.
